About Crown Royal Vanilla

Crown Royal Vanilla begins with a blend of Crown Royal whiskies that are carefully selected by the brand's master whisky blenders. From there, the spirit gets infused with the rich flavor of Madagascar vanilla. It's sweet and creamy, with lots of vanilla bean flavors alongside hints of soft oak. It's silky on the palate and warming, with a dessert-like finish.

Crown Royal Vanilla isn't the most subtle of whiskies, but if you like vanilla and don't mind sweeter-style spirits, give it a whirl.

About Crown Royal Apple

Crown Royal Apple is a Canadian whisky infused with Regal Gala Apples and apple flavoring, bottled at a slightly lower proof than their standard whisky. It's often used in place of other apple liqueurs (like the much-derided DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker) to make cocktails.

Because it's sweet and flavored (in large part artificially), Crown Royal Apple is a pretty divisive spirit. Whisky purists generally can't stand the stuff, but it's generally regarded as better than the other offerings out there. Like most of these debates, the only way to truly settle it is to try some yourself—but if you're skeptical, maybe don't buy a whole bottle.

About Crown Royal Deluxe

Crown Royal Deluxe Blended Canadian Whisky was first created in 1939 to celebrate King George VI's visit to Canada, and is a blend of over 50 different Canadian whiskies aged for a minimum of 10 years. It has since become a staple in the Crown and Coke (which is exactly what it sounds like), but it holds its own as a solid sipping whisky. The purple velvet bag that shrouds each bottle is iconic, and has enjoyed a small place in pop culture being repurposed into everything from clothing and artwork to geeky dice bags.

About Crown Royal XO

Not to be confused with the Crown Royal XR (Extra Rare), the Crown Royal XO is a blended Canadian whisky from Crown Royal, the Canadian whisky maker known for its purple velvet pouches that wrap their signature whisky bottles. This Crown Royal XO expression is a blend of 50 whiskies of varying age, that are then finished in cognac casks, adding complexity and elegance to its flavor profile.

About Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye

Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye builds on the brand's traditional rye profile, upping the rye grain ratio to a full 90%. The change is noticeable and welcome, as Northern Harvest Rye offers a more interesting and flavorful drinking experience than the original. It's full of baked apples, cereal grains, light wood and spice, plus a custard creaminess and vanilla sweetness.

Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye is a fine addition to the Crown Royal portfolio, and one that shows off those rye grains that have historically been used more sparingly in the brand's other blends.

About Crown Royal XR

Crown Royal Extra Rare, or Crown Royal XR, is a luxury whisky that's blended with a rare batch of stocks from the LaSalle Distillery, which closed in 1993. As such, it's not cheap, but it is an interesting whisky, and one that offers more substance and nuance than the ubiquitous flagship bottle.

Crown Royal XR is not to be confused with Crown Royal XO, which is finished in cognac casks.

About Crown Royal Maple Finished

Crown Royal Maple is a blended whisky that combines Crown Royal with maple flavor. The liquid is then finished in maple-toasted oak to deliver an extra dose of maple. It's very sweet, almost akin to drinking spiked maple syrup.

Fortunately, there's enough oak shining through to tame that sweetness, and underneath all that maple flavor, you'll still find some of that recognizable Crown Royal whisky. This isn't a spirit for whisky aficionados, but one that just might prove a gateway drink for those new to the category.
