Sombra Mezcal’s flagship spirit, Uno Joven, is an artisanal, unaged silver mezcal introduced to the market by Master Sommelier and winemaker Richard Betts.
After discovering a passion for the culture and flavors of Oaxaca, Betts embarked on a journey to create a standout mezcal—Oaxaca’s signature spirit. Sombra Mezcal, which won a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, is the result of that effort.
Sombra Mezcal is made from espadín agave plants which mature at an elevation of more than 8,000 feet on the sunny slopes of the Oaxacan Sierras.
After harvest, they are roasted in a stone pit over an oak fire, and are then crushed and fermented for eight days before being double-distilled in copper pot stills and bottled at 90 proof.
Sombra Mezcal has aromas of black pepper, honey, and nuts, and displays rich flavors of agave, smoke, toffee, black pepper, and lemon.
