The Definitive Guide to the 30 Days of Bourbon Challenge: 2025 Edition

It’s that time again—Bourbon Heritage Month is right around the corner! For more than ten years, Bourbon & Banter has proudly led the charge in making September the ultimate month-long tribute to America’s native spirit, complete with special content, giveaways, and plenty of reasons to raise a glass.

The star of the show? Our 30 Days of Bourbon Challenge—back and better than ever. Whether you’re a seasoned sipper or just starting to explore, this is your chance to join a community-wide toast to bourbon all month long.

Here’s the deal: drink 30 different bourbons in 30 days. Sounds fun, right? But it’s more than just a boozy checklist—it’s a full-on bourbon experience. You’ll explore new bottles, discover fresh favorites, and gain a deeper appreciation for the history, variety, and flavor that bourbon delivers.

Let’s raise our glasses together and make this Bourbon Heritage Month one to remember. Try something new, revisit a classic, and enjoy the ride—one bourbon at a time. Cheers!

OFFICIAL RULES: 30 Days of Bourbon Challenge

Here’s how to keep your Challenge legit: bourbon only. That means no Scotch, no Rye, no Irish, no Japanese, no “bourbon-inspired” blends from anywhere else. And definitely no flavored imposters. If it doesn’t meet the TTB’s definition of bourbon, it doesn’t make the cut. (Sorry, Fireball.)

Stick to the real stuff. It’s 30 days of bourbon—not whiskey adjacent. Let’s keep the focus where it belongs.

A common question: Is Tennessee Whiskey allowed? You bet. Jack Daniel's and George Dickel are good to go. Technically speaking, Tennessee Whiskey is bourbon before it goes through the Lincoln County process. That extra step doesn’t change the base—so they’re in.

Here’s how to make every pour count:

  • Proof Matters: Wild Turkey 81 and 101 are considered one expression. But if a brand offers a Bottled-in-Bond version and a standard one, those are fair game individually.
  • Mash-Up Mastery: Four Roses’ ten unique recipes each stand on their own. Their Small Batch, Select, and limited blends? Totally eligible.
  • Finished = Fair Game: Bourbons finished in other barrels (like Angel’s Envy) are welcome, as long as they started life as bourbon.
  • Sourced But Legit: Bourbon sourced from another distillery is fine—as long as it’s still bourbon and fits the rest of the rules.
  • Single Barrel Clarification: Different barrels of the same expression? Still just one entry. Don’t try to game the challenge with every Blanton’s letter.
  • Cocktails Are Cool: If cocktails are your thing, go for it—just be sure each one includes a unique bourbon.

Strap in, pour up, and let the bourbon adventure begin!
