Here’s a look at two new wines from Alexana, based in the Dundee Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Alexana just passed its 20th anniversary, and we’re celebrating with them with coverage of these new releases.
2024 Alexana Rose of Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard – Pretty and floral, with lots of strawberry and a smear of vanilla custard. Ample acidity keeps the wine lively and refreshing, and the fruit never becomes cloying. As it develops on the palate, notes of guava, orange blossoms, and some pineapple all zip in and out of the room. The finish is clean, though ultimately the tiniest bit heavy on the florals. A- / $34
2023 Alexana “Mosaic” Pinot Noir Dundee Hills – A rather classic expression of Oregon pinot, undulating with spiced cherry, lacquered walnuts, and rhubarb, touched with gentle notes of allspice and cloves. Layers of graphite give the wine a chewy earthiness, with light overtones of greenery peeking out here and there, all of which balance out any otherwise heavy fruity qualities. Simultaneously dense and refreshing, this is a wine that rewards introspection and time in glass. A- / $45
