Shiner tells BourbonBlog.com they pushing deeper into whiskey with Shiner Texas Legend Bourbon, a limited, distillery-only bourbon that marks a major step in the brand’s spirits program. Texas Legend comes from the distillery’s very first bourbon distillation on March 30, 2023 and is drawn from the first five bourbon barrels ever filled at the Shiner distillery.
For more than a century, Shiner has been one of the defining names in Texas beer, with Shiner Bock and the K. Spoetzl Brewery woven into Lone Star drinking culture in Shiner, Texas.
In 2023, Shiner expanded beyond beer by officially launching the K. Spoetzl Distillery on the brewery property and introducing its first line of Shiner Craft Spirits, including vodka, gin, and white whiskey (all pictured at the bottom of this story).
For collectors and Shiner loyalists, this is the “first chapter” bourbon that ties a century-plus beer legacy to a focused Texas whiskey story.
First bourbon distillation: March 30, 2023
Source barrels: First five bourbon barrels ever filled at K. Spoetzl Distillery
Maturation: Three Texas summers in heavy-toast, level 3 char American white oak
Style: Limited, distillery-only bourbon
Proof: 109 proof (54.5% ABV), bottled at cask strength
Price: $199 per bottle

Texas Legend is built on a corn-dominant four-grain mashbill:
Yellow Dent Corn
Malted Wheat
Winter Rye
Two-Row Malted Barley
The bourbon was aged in naturally seasoned American white oak with a heavy toast and level 3 char, then matured through three Texas summers in Shiner’s South Texas climate. The heat and humidity help drive intense interaction between whiskey and wood, giving more barrel character in a relatively short calendar age.
Nose: Sweet oak, caramel, and baking spice with layered notes of orange, vanilla, and maple.
Palate: Full-bodied with caramelized sugar, charred oak, baking spice, and candied orange peel; vanilla and maple deepen as it opens in the glass.
Finish: Exceptionally smooth for the proof, with lingering soft clove and a warm, cask-strength finish.
Director of Brewery & Distillery Operations Tom Fiorenzi says the goal was to craft something that feels timeless but unmistakably Texan—classic bourbon structure shaped by South Texas aging and Shiner’s grain-to-glass approach.
Distribution is intentionally tight: to get a bottle, you’re heading to Shiner, Texas.
Because it’s a limited, on-site release, anyone planning a road trip should call the K. Spoetzl Brewery & Distillery ahead of time to confirm current availability before making the drive.
