Review: YaVe Tequila Jalapeno

Don’t call it a flavored tequila: YaVe is “naturally infused” with jalapeno, mango, or coconut — in addition to un-infused blanco and reposado impressions. Founded by Joe Cruz Jr. in New York City, the brand is made from a blend of Highlands and Lowlands agave (100% agave, naturally) and a proprietary yeast strain and is produced without additives (aside from what’s used in the infusions, of course).

We received the Jalapeno expression for review, so let’s dive into it.

YaVe Tequila Jalapeno Review

There’s no shortage of peppery jalapeno on the nose, though the tequila never comes close to feeling overbearingly hot and spicy. Green and herbal, the jalapeno is a slow build, though it hides any overt agave notes from the start. Secondary aromas of vanilla and some brown butter add a touch of aromatic sweetness.

The palate does not diverge, with a slightly sweet presentation of fresh (not pickled) jalapeno and a gently grassy quality that ensures any heat is kept largely at bay. The peppery notes are fully manageable, with the underlying agave only slightly more visible here. The overall presentation however is quite refreshing and lively, with a crisp and cleansing finish.

70 proof.
